Volunteers
This event would not
be possible if it wasn’t for the hard work and
dedication of the many volunteers it takes to put
everything together. Most of the volunteers return
each year which helps makes this event so
successful.
Who can be a volunteer? Almost anyone can become a volunteer. Some of them begin working many months before the scheduled event day. These volunteers help to coordinate the next event, solicit donations and sponsorship and organize the volunteers that are needed the day of the event. The additional volunteers that are needed on the day of the event are the fishermen that volunteer their time and boats, some help to prepare and cook the food, clowns and musical bands that entertain the kids throughout the day, people working the registration tables, some help to setup and take down banners and signs and others help wherever they were needed. To successfully put on this event for 50 participants it takes up to 85 volunteers including the boaters.
It’s guaranteed that all of your hard work will be repaid tenfold with new life’s lessons taught to you by the kids that attend this event. It is hard to explain how the smiles and excitement these children have on their faces can affect you by something as simple as handing them a fishing pole and tackle box that is theirs to keep. Many of these children go through hardships that we can’t imagine on a daily basis, yet show so much emotion over something as simple as a fishing pole. We have so much to learn about life from these children and I sometimes wonder if this event is really meant for us.
